In 90's he was known as action star only like Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar who also started there career with action movies. He started his career in bollywood with superhit movie Phool Aur Kaante(1991) for which he also received Best Male Debut Filmfare Award (1992). Ajay's performed stunt on bike for Phool Aur Kaante(1991) in opening scene which is still replicated by Rohit Shetty in Golmaal Series movies.
