Raazi is a 2018 Indian Bollywood spy thriller film directed by Meghna Gulzar who has earlier directed cult movies like Filhaal ( 2002 ) and Talvar ( 2015 ) . Film is produced under the banner of Dharma Productions ( Karan Johar ) and Junglee Pictures ( Vineet Jain) . The plot of the movie is adaptated from Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, a story of an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent who, upon her father’s request, is married into a family of military officials in Pakistan to relay confidential information to India, before the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 . Lead Star of the movie include Alia Bhatt playing the role of Sehmat alongwith Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat and Rajit Kapur . Real Sehmat role played by Alia passed away a month before film’s release . Alia Bhatt and her mother Soni Razdan appear as on-screen mother and daughter for the first time in Bollywood movie . It was the tenth movie of Alia’s career of which eight were produced by Karan Johar at that time . Filming of Raazi began in July 2017 in Mumbai and was completed on 27 October 2017. It was shot at several locations like Patiala, Nabha, Malerkotla, Pahalgam, Srinagar and Doodhpathri . Shooting in Patiala was halted for few days due to the riots that stared after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on 25 August 2017 . The first poster of Raazi was released on 9 April 2018 through the official Twitter handle of the film, while the trailer of the film was launched on 10 April 2018. The film was released on 11 May 2018. Raazi received mostly positive reviews from critics .

Raazi was blockbuster at the box office and was the third film, driven by female lead, to gross more than Rs.100 crore nett in India, after Kahaani(2012) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) till 2018 . Raazi emerged as the tenth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2018 and collected 207 crore ( Worldwide gross collection ) . It was also the highest grossing movie of Alia’s career breaking the record of Badrinath Ki Dulhania till 2018 . Gully Boy became highest grossing movie for Alia which was released in 2019 .
The soundtrack was officially released on 18 April 2018 by Zee Music Company which was directed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and lyrics were written by Gulzar.
