October is a 2018 Bollywood film directed by Shoojit Sircar known for direction of critically acclaimed movies like Yahaan ( 2005 ), Vicky Donor ( 2012 ), Madras Cafe ( 2013 ) and Piku ( 2015 ) . October is produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under their production Rising Sun Films . Music is composed by Shantanu Moitra, Abhishek Arora and Anupam Roy . It was released on 13 April 2018 .
The film stars Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, and Gitanjali Rao in lead roles supported by Sahil Vedoliyaa, Ashish Ghosh and Isha Chaturvedi . Banita Sandhu and Gitanjali Rao both debuted in Bollywood with this movie . October received mixed reviews from critics . It grossed around 58 . 41 crores worldwide and was average at the box office . October earned six nominations at the 2019 Filmfare Awards including Best Supporting Actress for Rao and Best Actor Critics for Varun . Varun Dhawan also won Best Actor NBT Utsav Award 2018 for this movie .
Filming is done at a five star hotel in Delhi and completed in 38 days . Story is inspired real life story of actor Ashok Saraf and Marathi actress Ranjana . The both were a couple and soon to marry but during the shooting of the film Jhanjaar 1987 Ranjana met with an accident and lost her legs leaving her paralyzed on wheel chair. Those days Ashok Saraf’s career was at the peak hence she told him to move on . Varun Dhawan didn’t knew about the final scene in which his co-actress dies . The director and the writer wanted his natural reaction . Varun dhavan himself didn’t knew about the fatal climax of the film . The director purposefully did so as to be able to capture the significance element of ‘hope’ in Varun’s expressions . It was first film of Varun of this genre different from his usual comical mass films .
